The first legs of the Champions League quarter-finals draw to a close last night, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool all favourites to reach the final four of the competition.

A Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired display helped holders Real Madrid win 3-0 away in Turin against Juventus, while Spanish rivals Barcelona beat Roma 4-1 at the Camp Nou. Own goals from Daniele de Rossi and Kostas Manolas, plus strikes from Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez, gave the Catalans the first-leg victory.

And Liverpool were in scintillating form as they beat Manchester City 3-0 in the all-Premier League clash at Anfield.

The goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane came in the opening 31 minutes as Jurgen Klopp’s side ran riot on Merseyside.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich will take a 2-1 aggregate lead back to Germany following their win in Spain against Sevilla. Franck Ribery set up both goals for the Bundesliga giants.

His low cross was turned into his own net by Jesus Navas after 37 minutes, and in the 68th minute Thiago Alcantara headed home from Ribery’s delivery. Pablo Sarabia had given the Spanish side the lead.
