Neymar has been one of the biggest transfer stories this summer. FC Barcelona have been looking to re-sign the player ever since the Brazilian attacker made the move to Paris Saint Germain in August 2017 for a record £198m.
Earlier on in the window, reports came out that both Real Madrid and Juventus were interested in the Brazilian superstar. However Neymar informed the officials at Paris Saint Germain that he would only be interested in joining Barcelona. The Catalan club wanted Neymar to make a public statement about his intentions, however, Neymar has kept quiet.
FC Barcelona representatives flew into Paris this morning to try and negotiate a deal for the return of Neymar Jr back to the Catalan club.
Mundo Deportivo journalist Francesc Aguilar has reported that Paris Saint Germain have accepted an offer of £160m which will be paid in two instalments of £80m which will be paid over the next 2 seasons. There will be no Barcelona players in the deal as none could be convinced to join the French capital.
Many journalists are questioning the rumours as PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was quoted saying the club wouldn’t accept a fee of less than £300m at the start of the season. Tensions between PSG and Barcelona are high and it would be unlikely that the Parisian club would be willing to sell their star man for less than the asking price.
Another Mundo Deportivo journalist Fernando Polo has reported that PSG and Barcelona have yet to come to an agreement, however, both clubs have high hopes that a deal could be struck. Other reporters have said that negotiating has stopped for the day and will be restarted tomorrow despite Barcelona’s keenness to announce the deal this evening.
The transfer window closes next Tuesday on the 2nd of September so there’s still time for the deal to go through. However, with PSG needing to bring in players before the end of the transfer window, the Parisian club may get tired of negotiating and decide to push for new signings especially if they think FC Barcelona are stalling the negotiations.
However, if Barcelona cough up the money, PSG will be extremely willing to part with their Brazilian superstar in Neymar Jr. If a deal is struck, then Neymar may well be a Barcelona player by the start of the UEFA Champions League campaign next month.
