How Zidane Could Set Up Real Madrid Next Season. With Zinedine Zidane surely hungry for another Champions League title, how will he set-up Real Madrid in the 2019/2020 season?

It has been widely reported that Real Madrid have essentially given Zizou the trust and funding he needs to build a Real Madrid side in his own image – and did so in order to tempt the French icon back to the hot seat. With that in mind, it is absolutely mouth-watering to think about the talent that could be brought to the Bernabeu this summer to help address the clear issues on display last season.

Tactically, you can’t imagine the Real Madrid legend will stray too far from his tried and trusted 4-3-3 – it did bring in three consecutive UCL’s at the end of the day. However, in true Real Madrid fashion, expect them to upgrade massively on personnel this summer

Although he’s had a tough time of it since moving back to Spain, it’s unlikely that Thibaut Courtois will be moved just yet at least so expect him to start next season. There was a media outcry when Zizou opted to play his son, Luca, in goal upon his return – but the Belgian stopper was in fact injured at the time – he’ll be their main man for 19/20 at least.

Moving on to the defence and sadly it looks time could be up on Marcelon. The Brazilian left-back has been the best in his position for what feels like forever, but just didn’t cut it in 19/20 and it looks like Lyon’s Ferland Mendy could be brought in to replace him. The Frenchman would be a good signing. He’s definitely a defensive upgrade on Marcelo considering he’s been dribbled past just twice in Ligue 1 this season but he’s not as attack minded as the Brazilian – although of course he is still young and could develop into that flying full-back that we know Zizou prefers. I expect that the tried and trusted centre back pairing of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane will keep their place in the starting XI for next season, with ex-Porto man Eder Militao coming in at right back – although long-term I could see him being moved into that central pairing as the heir to Sergio Ramos, he really does look that good.

In terms of the midfield, expect at least one of that classic trio of Casemiro, Modric and Kroos to be phased out next season, most likely Modric. It looks as though Zidane will look to the Premier League for the Ballon d’Or winners replacement in the form of either Christian Eriksen or Paul Pogba – who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly won’t be able to keep hold of this summer. Zizou won’t want to tamper with the core of an era-defining squad too much – so expect Casemiro and Kroos to keep their places for now.

Up top it seems almost certain that Luka Jovic will replace Karim Benzema – who had an impressive swan song last season – at CF. He’ll be flanked, most likely, by Vinicius Junior and Marco Asensio in terms of current options – but I expect Zizou to go big on spending here. On the left, the obvious choice is Belgian winger Eden Hazard who has been flirting with that move to Madrid pretty much since he landed in England. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him going equally big on the opposite side and look the lure Liverpool’s main man Mohamed Salah to Madrid.

Would Eden Hazard – Luka Jovic – Mo Salah be the best front three on the continent?
