Cristiano Ronaldo should be fit in time for Real Madrid’s Champions League semi-final first leg against holders Bayern Munich on Wednesday — according to coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Ronaldo faces a late fitness test for the tie at the Santiago Bernabeu after being sidelined with a knee and hamstring injury since the beginning of the month.

Ancelotti — who steered his side to Kings Cup success against arch rivals Barcelona last week — said: “Today he (Cristiano Ronaldo) trained with the team, he feels good, we feel good, tomorrow we will do a physical speed test and either he feels good or there is a risk of a relapse.”

Bayern Munich coach pep Guardiola knows his Wednesday night opposition only too well after four trophy-laden years at Barcelona and his record against the Madrid club of two defeats in 15 matches speaks volumes (9 wins, 4 draws and 2 defeats).

Thiago Alcantara and Xherdan Shaqiri will miss out through injury but Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez both return from suspension.

Guardiola said: “They (Real Madrid) are opponents, who individually, player by player, are the most difficult in the semi-finals. There is no other team like Real Madrid. On Cristiano (Ronaldo) I hope he can play. At the end of the day this is a game we play for the public, the people want to see the best players, and he is without doubt one of the best.”
